Things to do in Faial da Terra

Faial da Terra is a small hamlet on the east coast, mainly used as the trailhead for the walk to the Salto do Prego waterfall and on to the restored hamlet of Sanguinho. The out-and-back walk takes roughly 2-3 hours at an easy pace, following a farm track and river path rather than a graded mountain trail.

It is marked, when marked at all, with the Azorean PR trail numbers, not alpine waymarking, and there is no hut, kiosk or rescue post along the way. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from Ponta Delgada and 10-15 minutes from Povoação.

Some coastal sections nearby close after landslides, so check conditions before setting out, especially after rain.
