Things to do in Caloura

Caloura is a small fishing port on the south coast, about a 20-minute drive from Ponta Delgada on the way to Vila Franca do Campo, past Lagoa. There is no seafront promenade or row of resorts here: just a harbour, a natural sea-water pool cut into the rocks, and a handful of places to eat grilled fish. The pool is free to use but has no lifeguard, and boat trips arranged from the harbour can be cancelled for swell at any time of year, including summer. Most visitors give Caloura an hour or two on the way along the coast rather than a full day.
